Pictorial warnings on tobacco products

The proposal to introduce pictorial warnings on tobacco products finally seems to eb underway albeit in a modified way. The health ministry has decided to let go of their earlier concept of showing gory pictures and instead settle in for milder picture that would be more acceptable to the wider public. I wonder how mucht he pressure from the tobacco loby had to do with the change in the proposal.

The ministry have approached the court to implement the proposal as early as possible. The effectivity of the pictorial warnings is something that I doubt. Most of consumers I believe indeed are aware of the harmful effects and consume tobacco inspite of it. Maybe the warnings might have some effect, where awareness might be a bit low , I still would be doubtful about the effectiveness of this measure.

The pictorial warnings are to occupy 40% of the pacakaging area is to be occupied by the warnings. I am sure that the manufacturers would find someother way to lure the consumers to their products. I am of the opinion that the warnings wont have the amount of effect of the magnitude necessary to bring about a change.

SHOAIB AKHTAR ALLOWED TO PLAY IN THE IPL

With the Pakistani board lifting the ban for a month, Shoaib Akhtar the rawalpindi express is all set to feature for the kolkata knight riders in their fortcoming matches.

While there was never a doubt that the board would relent and allow him to play in the IPL once Shoaib had apologized. I wonder why they could not do this a bit earlier. That would have enabled him to play for the kolkata team much earlier.

After a fantastic start to the campaign, sadly the knight riders have lost their way a bit losing their last few matches on the trot. Without a doubt the firepower that Shoaib brings with him will be a big help. Bowlers with pace have survived well in the tournament and have contained the batsmen and when it comes to pace no one better that Shoaib Akhtar.

There might be a few doubts about his attitude and his ability to gel with the team; however a class act like him can destroy any batting line-up single handedly on his day.

Hence I am sure Sourav and co. would put with minor inconveniences in their quest to win the league.
